This stunning boy with the sweet face is Fred! He's a Pit Bull Terrier Mix who's about 2-3 years old, is mostly house trained and is learning to like his crate. He gets along great with his Foster Family's dog, he met a cat at the Vet's office and behaved very well, and he hasn't met any children yet.
Fred and his sister were picked up by Animal Control and his family was able to get his sister out but didn't have enough to get him. We learned about his story and rescued him the day before he was scheduled to be put to sleep! He's a shy guy who warms up to women quickly yet it takes a little longer with men, and he prefers to meet people when they're sitting down, instead of standing over him. His Foster Family has been working with him, teaching him how to trust people, building his confidence and he's been learning how to let his guard down!
A big sweetheart, Fred is turning into a great cuddle buddy! He sleeps in his crate some nights and the other nights he gets to sleep in bed with his Foster Parents, which makes him one happy guy! He loves cuddling with them and it's been a great way to get him to warm up to them! They'll be in bed and will pat their chest and he happily comes over and lays on them, which just touches their hearts. Fred loves having his neck & head rubbed and will occasionally give kisses as a thank you! A beautiful boy with a soft, gorgeous black coat, white tux and white underneath his chin & on the tips of his toes, Fred is a great example of how gorgeous black dogs are! He has a sweet face with eyes that touch your soul and make you want to love him!
Energetic & playful, Fred has a great time playing with his Foster Family's dog. They run around the backyard, chase balls and enjoy each others company. He's very comfortable around dogs and would probably be happy if his Forever Home has a dog so he can have a companion, playmate and mentor but it's not required.
Fred is a smart boy who has been working on learning commands. He knows how to sit and appears to learn quickly & understand when he's taught something but sometimes his fear of trusting makes the training a bit difficult. But, his Foster Family keeps working with him and he's making progress! He likes going for walks, is a good boy on the leash, and enjoys going for car rides. He recently went to Petco and he behaved very well! Because Fred is such a smart guy, he is able to find any hole or weakness in a fence and get out. He doesn't go anywhere once he gets out, and he doesn't jump the fence, we think he just enjoys the challenge of finding a way out, and he would do well in a yard with a basic 4-5ft chain link fence. We highly recommend that the fence is taut so he cannot push underneath it to get out.
Fred will make his Forever Family laugh a lot with his silly antics! He has a way of passing gas then looking at someone like they did it. and he has the cutest way of sticking the tip of his tongue out when he's relaxing on the couch! And, no matter what he's doing at the time, if he hears the food bowl, he's by his Foster Parents side, ready to eat!
Fred looks forward to finding a patient, caring Family or Special Person who understands his previous life was hard, one who will give him love and guidance as they help him build his confidence as he learns how to trust people. He's definitely worth it! If you'd like to add this stunning boy with the sweet face to your Family, please fill out an Adoption Application for Fred.
