This handsome boy with the sweet face is Stewie! He's an Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler Mix who's approximately 4-5 years old, neutered, current on his vaccinations, microchipped and house trained & crate trained. He'll bark or 'talk' when he has to go potty. He gets along great with dogs but prefers dogs who have a calm, low energy and he's a good boy with the cats in his Foster Home, chasing them if they run but respectful of their space. A gentle guy with protective instincts, we feel it'd be best if his Forever Home doesn't have any young children.
We met Stewie when we were evaluating another dog on the euthanasia list at Animal Control, he was coming in as we were finishing up. He stayed on our minds and a month later, he was a Meacham's Mutt!
Stewie is a very friendly guy who's a bit shy when he first meets someone. He's a sweet, loyal boy who loves being around his people and he enjoys curling up next to his Foster Mom or laying at her feet. He sleeps in his crate at night but also likes sleeping on the floor next to his Foster Parents bed. Dogs aren't allowed on the furniture in their home but we think he'd love to cuddle on the couch with his people. Stewie is affectionate but doesn't give a lot of kisses yet he will if he's asked. Belly rubs are the way to make this beautiful boy happy and he'll roll over, wiggle on your feet and grunt & snort until he gets one! He's a goofy boy who's pretty easy to love, especially when he smiles! He has a big smile and makes some great expressions that will have you laughing. He's so handsome, with soft brown eyes, the sweetest face and black dots all over his fur!
An intelligent boy, Stewie listens well, comes when he's called and is a quick learner! He knows quite a few commands & tricks, such as Sit, Shake, Lay down, Roll over and Sit up, which means sit pretty. He loves going for walks and gets excited when his Foster Mom picks up his leash, starting a game of tug-of-war. They're working on leashing him calmly and once his initial excitement fades, he stops pulling and walks great! He even heels nicely if his leash is shortened, and he's well-behaved when they pass other dogs in the neighborhood. Stewie doesn't bark while he's out for a walk but he does bark at strangers when they come up to the door of his Foster Home - he doesn't bark once they're inside or any other time. He's been working on this and has become more confident & trusting, even giving kisses to a few new visitors!
Stewie is a low-energy dog who enjoys spending the day napping near his Foster Mom. He does get short bursts of playfulness and tries to convince his Foster Family's dog, a beautiful Golden Retriever, into playing with him or chasing him around the yard. They get along great and he has a blast playing fetch, especially with balls! He loves walks but not long ones, preferring a quick walk around the block. One of his favorite activities is going for car rides and he's been a good boy who enjoyed himself during trips to Petco, where he likes to get soft, chewy treats.
Stewie's looking for a calm, low-energy Forever Home without young children and he can't wait to be loved forever! If you'd like to give this handsome boy with the sweet face the life he craves, please fill out an Adoption Application for Stewie.
